What happens to Polaris over 24 h?

It stands almost motionless in the sky 24 hours a day because it lies nearly in a direct line with the axis of the Earth's rotation "above" the North Pole. An excellent fixed point from which people can draw measurements for celestial navigation and for astrometry.
